So here is the most important question to ask yourself as you venture into the ever changing waters that is now American Education. What is the wisest thing I can do for my children and family at this time? I would like to take credit for this question but I can not. It is based, in an elementary way, on Andy Stanley’s book The Best Question Ever.
This question is so fitting as it has multiple applications that take into consideration what is wisest - at this time - for you as a parent to do moving forward. The answer will be different for each of us. You get to decide based on passed information, experience and what you want for your family.
Do you send your child to school given the upswing in infections? Is wearing a mask for hours at a time, a viable option for your 6 yr old? Is taking a higher paid position, so you can afford someone to stay at home with your children the best decision? Can you ‘flex’ your hours at your current job? Getting together with neighbors to create local school houses that are supported by various types of monetary and in kind contributions could be an option.
Looking back on what you already know is part of the decision making process. Given how the end of the last school year went, what have you learned that factors into the wise decision at this time? What do you know about COVID 19 at this point? How resilient are your children to change? What is the wisest course of action for you to take at this time?
It is not right or wrong, legal, moral, convenient, ethical or universal. It is wise. It is based on what you have experienced and what you want for your family moving forward. What is your wisest decision?
